Fall Road Trip with Charlie 🦮
For the first time in two years I’m getting back on the road for a Fall trip. Looking back through my previous blogs I’ve seen a lot, done a lot and run a lot on previous Fall road trips. Last year between Covid and the fires it seemed as though Fall was wiped out so I was definitely excited to get back out on the road with Charlie.
The sky was starting to clear around Shasta for the first time in over a year and despite fires still burning we had a pretty clear drive to Fallon, Nevada the next day. I stopped and took pictures around Lassen Volcanic National Park and talked to firefighters about the Dixie Fire. It was mostly contained but was almost at a million acres.
The night before I was reading local brochures about the area things to see and do and there was mention of the bridge where they filmed the boys racing the train in Stand By Me. I saw it and turned around to get pictures.
The next day found us back on the Loneliest Road in America traveling from Fallon to Beaver, Utah. Even out in the middle of nowhere the plants were turning pretty Fall colors.
Normally the next pictures would probably be of the beautiful majestic landscapes of Western Utah along I 70. Unfortunately the sky was so hazy everything was washed out. I have a lot of pictures in previous blogs because it is really beautiful. The same was pretty much true of Western Colorado but I did manage to get a few pictures between storms. It rained and even some very light snow from Eagle almost all the way to Denver.
We got through Glenwood Canyon just in time. On the way out of Denver the next day I heard on KOA that weather and flooding closed the canyon and there was a four hour detour. I was really happy we hadn’t got stuck in that.
The last night on the road we stayed at the same Motel 6 we stayed at before in Junction City, Kansas. It was a good trip but after the 3rd day of travel it was more tiring than usual. I was glad to get to Stacie’s and see them all.
