Southeastern Road Trip - Part 1

I got back to St. Louis on Saturday evening. I was hoping to make it to Chase’s hockey game but it didn’t work out. The good news is they won 3-0. On Sunday I got to watch Haley play field hockey and Chase play two lacrosse games.

Spent Monday repacking and binging the final shows of Ozark before heading out Tuesday morning for Joe and Judy Palmer’s in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Playoff hockey started Monday night! The Blues started with a 4-0 shut out! πŸ‘πŸ»

When I got to Joe’s they both fell in love with Charlie and he quickly made himself at home picking out a safe place.

It was a fun night of catching up and plans were made to stop back through on the return trip when Smitty and Denise were going to be there. Joe cooked an outstanding dinner. Hard to believe I didn’t take a picture of it because meals with friends and family were a really big part of this trip.

Speaking of meals the first thing I wanted was when I got to Athens was a pizza from Ted’s. It’s kind of a tradition to get one with a Stella Artois draft as soon as I get to town.

Then Charlie quickly found his spot at Clarence’s.

Our routine at Clarence’s was pretty much the same as always as soon as I was sure Charlie was settled we went to the Square One a seafood and oyster bar that a friend of Clarence’s owned to have a beer and see whoever was there. Then we stopped at one more place we had been to before that I’ve never found particularly appealing. It’s another oyster bar and quite pretentious. Add to that Clarence’s mystique seems to have worn off and it was basically a beer and go. The beer story however is memorable and funny as hell. I’ll share it later in this blog.

Later that night Jessica Fore a candidate for congress that Clarence hosted an event for came by with some yard signs and had some wine with us. Charlie made another new friend. I guess because she was a politician Charlie decided that humping her while she was sitting on the floor would be a good thing to do. He’s never done that since I’ve had him. I guess he figured do it to a politician before the politician screwed you. 😳

The next day was Cinco de Mayo and Clarence cooked breakfast before he had to work like he did everyday and then we went out to an early dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Normal Town and then back to Square One so I could meet some more friends.

The next morning we headed to Fred and Leah’s in Folkston, Georgia for a few days. The first thing we did was see Fred’s latest project. He’s completely refurbishing and old train and two of the trolleys it pulls. He’s always got a ton of irons in the fire.

We went to a fish and wings place that almost put us in a coma the first night. Everything was good because everything was fried. πŸ˜‚ Fish, shrimp, fries and of course okra. Love fried okra.

Mornings at Folkston always start with coffee on the porch and a routine that Charlie quickly adapted to, treats for the dogs. Then breakfast often including mimosas or Bloody Mary’s.

While it’s not only about food, there’s a lot of laughter, good music and shared memories, the food is always good. We had dinner for Mother’s Day at Tobey and Jill’s and as usual they put on a heck of a spread.

The last night we went out for Mexican to celebrate Leah’s birthday. Then the next morning Charlie, Clarence and I left for Cocoa Beach.
